If you are interested in raising awareness in your area, I encourage you to watch this excellent recorded webinar, produced by our friends at the EveryLife Foundation: Share Your Story Through Local Media. They also have a local media toolkit.

I attended this webinar when it was presented live and found it very informative. Although EveryLife is an organization focused on rare diseases (which includes primary lymphedema), the information and advice in this webinar is also applicable to secondary lymphedema.

One of the valuable tips is the importance of having a timely “hook.” In other words, what makes this story relevant or important right now? Even if you do not have breast cancer-related lymphedema, the upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October could serve as your hook, because it is the leading cause of lymphedema in the United States.

And as a reminder, Congress recently returned from the long August recess and needs to hear from you again about the importance of passing the LTA this year! Please send your Representative and Senators an email if you have not yet done so this month. Thank you for your continued advocacy!
